Women with Knives
Halifax Waterfront Pop Can, 2023
A woman who is angry is a woman who is aware of the world she is in. She is tired of contorting into irrational paradoxes and being the brunt of politics. She wants representation beyond the Barbie movie. She wants revenge.
Women with Knives is a suite of eleven prints made through a method called trace monotype. The one-part-ugly and two-parts-beautiful aesthetic is an appropriate carrier of ultra-feminist brutality. As I’ve grown as a person, I’ve come to realize several of my hidden sufferings are from the strange places women occupy in Western society. These monotypes portray characters from deep within to varying degrees of extremity, from the softly sinister to the violently enraged.
